Cruising is often misunderstood. Many people rule it out before seriously considering it, usually because of things they have heard from others or assumptions that no longer apply.

After helping many travelers plan trips with Royal Caribbean, I see the same myths come up again and again. The reality of cruising today looks very different from what most people expect.

Let’s take a closer look at a few of the most common cruise myths and what cruising is actually like.

Myth 1: You Will Be Bored on a Cruise

One of the most common concerns is that there will not be much to do onboard.

In reality, modern cruise ships offer a wide range of activities throughout the day and night. Guests can choose from live shows, music, pools, spas, fitness classes, trivia, quiet lounges, outdoor decks, and many onboard activities.

Most travelers are surprised by how much is available. The real challenge is usually deciding what to skip, not figuring out how to fill the day.

At the same time, cruising allows you to slow down. You can stay busy from morning to night or spend the day reading by the pool. Both options work, and neither is wrong.

Myth 2: Cruises Are Only for Families

Royal Caribbean is known for being family-friendly, but cruises are not only for families.

Many ships include adult-only Solarium areas, spa thermal suites, quieter lounges, and specialty dining spaces that couples, solo travelers, and friend groups enjoy.

With the right ship and itinerary, a cruise can feel relaxed, calm, and very grown-up.

Myth 3: Cruises Are Too Expensive

Cruises are often one of the best vacation values once you look at what is included.

A Royal Caribbean cruise typically bundles accommodations, meals, entertainment, and many onboard activities into one upfront price. This makes budgeting easier and helps avoid constant spending decisions during the trip.

When travelers compare a cruise to a land vacation with hotels, dining, transportation, and entertainment purchased separately, the value becomes much clearer.
